Death came yesterday afternoon to Mrs. J.C.MCCABE, a life-long resident of the Fairfield community.
She passed away at 2:40 p.m. at the Jefferson county hospital where she entered as a patient Wednesday evening after suffering a stroke while attending prayer meeting at the Methodist church.
Last rites will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at the Methodist church with Dr. L.L. Weis in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will be taken from the Hoskins funeral home to the church at 1 p.m. the day of the services.
Grace Eugenia SPENCER MCCABE, 71, was born Aug. 9, 1880, in Fairfield, Ia., the daughter of the late Fayette and Nettie ROLAND (sic. ROWLAND) SPENCER. She was united in marriage on Feb. 12, 1901, to J.C. MCCABE. The wedding took place at Fairfield.
Mrs. MCCABE, a member of the Methodist church since 1891, spent her entire life in this community. She was a charter member of the Wesleyan Bible class at the church.
She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Helen YOUNG, Phoenix, Ariz.; Mrs. Hazel WOOLEY, East Moline, Ill.; Lois,, Fairfield; Mrs. Gladys ALLSUP, Iowa City; Mrs. Rita GRIFFIN, Moline, Ill.; and one son, Spencer.
She is also survivied by seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren, and a sister Mrs. Jessie GOLVIN, Sun Valley, Calif.
Her husband, the late J.C. MCCABE, preceded his wife in death on Oct. 15, 1951.
