The following is a verbatim transcription of the obituary for Dr. J.B. BRADSHAW that was found in a microfilmed copy of the "Fairfield Ledger" of March 19, 1884, page 3, column 5:

"Death of Dr. J.B. BRADSHAW.

On the 13th inst., at Stiles, Davis county, occurred the death of Dr. Joel B. BRADSHAW, a gentleman well known in this county, where he was born and grew to manhood. He was a son of J. C. BRADSHAW, who had been a resident of this county for many years. He was about 34 years of age. His illness was of but seven days' duration and he died from rheumatism of the heart. Mr. BRADSHAW studied medicine here and afterwards graduated at the Rush Medical College, Chicago. He then begun practice at Salina, where he was also in business. He remained there six or seven years, the then removed to Stiles, where he has been for about two years past. He was married to Miss Mattie HARROUN, and to them two children were born, only one of whom is now living. His remains were brought to this city Saturday. The funeral occurred Sunday at 11 a.m. from the residence of his brother, Dr. A.C.D. BRADSHAW, and the remains were interred in the family cemetery, east of town. Rev. Lewis Mendenhall conducted the services. Dr. BRADSHAW was an excellent physician and a good business man. He had many friends who will feel his loss sadly, and will sympathize with his family in their bereavement."

Transcriber note:

Note: Buried at Bradshaw family cemetery in Jefferson County, Iowa.

Note: Bradshaw family information at Fairfield Public Library indicates that Joel was married first to a Elizabeth P FALCONER, and they divorced. He then married Charlotte Martha HARROUN on April 17, 1876 in Jefferson County, Iowa. Her name on his headstone is thus referred to as "Lottie".

Joel and Charlotte had two children, evidently. Daughter Martha G BRADSHAW is buried with her father in Bradshaw Cemetery and shares a tall monument with him.

The subsequent whereabouts of Mrs. Charlotte HERROUN BRADSHAW is not clear to other researchers according to family history information on file at the Fairfield Public Library.
