BETTIS, Edward Labell -- Edward Labell BETTIS, 62, of Fairfield, died in his sleep Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

A memorial has been established to the American Heart Association.

Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Mr. BETTIS was born Nov. 24, 1946, in New Orleans, La., the son of Edward Labell and Rita HINYUB BETTIS. He married Lane CAPLINGER May 25, 1979, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Mr. BETTIS grew up in New Orleans. He had lived in Fairfield since 1990. He was a chef by trade.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Edward William BETTIS of Fairfield; and four daughters, Kathryn L. BETTIS of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Rita N. BETTIS of Iowa City, Susan GIBSON of Scarborough, Ala., and Murrie DIXON of Tuscaloosa, Ala.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Robert Lloyd BETTIS.
