Obituary found in Fairfield Daily Ledger microfilm records at Fairfield Public Library. Published Wednesday, July 30, 1947.

"Death Claims A.L.STANFORD

A.L. STANFORD, 87, native of Fairfield; died today at the Saint Joseph hospital in Ottumwa, where he had been a patient for the past six weeks. He had been in failing health two months and seriously ill about four weeks. His death came at 12:20 a.m. this morning.

Mr. STANFORD was born in Fairfield on April 16, 1860, the son of the late Abram and Nancy BRADSHAW STANFORD. In 1907 he moved to Lyford, Texas, from a farm north of Fairfield. While in Texas he was a fruit grower and farmer. He moved back to this community in 1927.

He had been a farmer all his life and was a member of the Methodist church.

Mr. STANFORD is survived by the following children: Clarence, Milwaukee; Mrs. Walter MOSS, Atlanta, Georgia; Frank L., San Antonio, Texas; Mrs. Wayne HARRIS, Fairfield; Fred H., Raymondville, Texas; and Robert B., Ottumwa.

He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

The body is at the Hoskins funeral home where last rites are pending.

Last rites will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Hoskins funeral home with A.K.Harper in charge and assisted by Dr. L.H.Scheerer. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery."

Abraham Lincoln STANFORD was, according to a family data sheet found at the Fairfield Public Library, married three times:

1) Evalyn who died 15 Oct. 1884 (headstone reads Oct.5 1884). Evalyn is buried at Friends Cemetery in Pleasant Plain, Jefferson County, Iowa) (Cautionary note: her legal date of death is recorded as being "Feby 28, 1885").
2) Eliz. McMUNN d.1916 Texas
3) Mrs. Anna (BLOUGH) NEWLAND d. Jan. 1939. She is buried at Evergreen Cemetery alongside her first husband George NEWLAND and her second husband Abraham Lincoln STANFORD.
