MATHEW RITES ARE TOMORROW

Services For Wife Of Civil War Veteran At Campbell Home

Funeral services for Mrs. Charlotte MATHEW, wife of H.H. MATHEW of Fairfield, will be held at the Campbell funeral home tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. in charge of Dr. U.S. Smith.

The members of the Daughters of Union Veterans will attend the funeral in a body, and are asked to meet at the Funeral Home at 1:30 p.m.

The death of Mrs. MATHEW breaks a most unusual married life for Mr. and Mrs. MATHEW, as less than two months ago they celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary. Mr. MATHEWS is in good health, and appears to be much younger than he is. Mrs. MATHEW was also in usual good health at the time of their wedding anniversary was observed last December 31st. They had many guests and a most enjoyable anniversary at the time. There unfortunately appeared in yesterday's issue, the statement that Mr. MATHEW had preceeded her in death.

Mary Charlotte PARENT was born February 23, 1840, in Henry county, Iowa. Her father and mother, Levi and Elizabeth PATTERSON PARENT came from Virginia. After stopping for several years in different places they settled in Henry county where they built a log cabin and lived in true pioneer fashion until the country grew up.

Had she lived until February 23 Mrs. MATHEW would have been 96 years of age. On December 31, 1868, she was wedded to H.H. MATHEW, and the two lived happily together for 67 years in Iowa, Kansas and Missouri. The were never blessed with children, and adopted a son, who is now living in Wellington, Kansas, the father of two children and several grandchildren.

There were five children in Mr. and Mrs. PARENT's family. The eldest, Mrs. Joel TURNEY died in 1928; John PARENT who died in the Civil War; George PARENT, who died in California in 1903; Lydia PARENT who died in 1857; and then Mary Charlotte PARENT, who departed this life on February 9, 1936.

Mr. MATHEW, who survives, is a veteran of the Civil War and has always taken a prominent part in G.A.R. affairs since.

Transcriber note: Mary Charlotte PARENT (Mrs. Harrison MATHEW) was a sister of Sarah Margaret PARENT TURNEY (Mrs. Joel TURNEY). The TURNEY family had established a concrete outlined family plot (2nd.074) following the death of Joel TURNEY in 1905, at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, Iowa. In this TURNEY plot the two sisters are laid to rest with their respective husbands.
