James (Jim) L. EVANS, age 64, of Farifield, passed away at his home Sunday, July 5, 2009.
Friends may pay their respects to the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, July 9, 2009 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, July 10, 2009 at the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield with the Rev. Joseph Phipps officiating. Jim will be laid to rest in Evergreen Cemetery.
Jim's family asks that in his memory, memorials be made to the following organizations in lieu of flowers: Education Foundation of Fairfield Public Schools, First Presbyterian Church, or Fairfield Womens Club. Cards and memorials may be sent c/o: P.O. Box 649, Fairfield, IA 52556.
James L. EVANS was born May 6, 1945 in Fairfield, IA to Lyman T. and Camilla K. (DARE) EVANS. He graduated from Fairfield High School with the Class of 1963, and from the University of Iowa in 1968. He was a member of the 34th Army Band for six years.
Jim was united in marriage with Marjorie TEGLAND on April 28, 1973. They are the parents of two sons: Todd and Scott.
Jim was owner of L. T. Evans Insurance Agency of Fairfield, a business begun by his father. He was a member of the Fairfield Golf and Country Club, B.P.O.E. #1192, Eagles Lodge #1927, and the First Presbyterian Church of Fairfield. Jim was an untiring supporter of the Trojan Booster Club and the Iowa Hawkeyes. He, along with other supporters, annually supplied popsicles to the football and volleyball teams during summer practices. Jim will be deeply missed by his loving family, his dear friends, and the entire community.
Surviving Jim is his wife of 36 years, Marj, of Fairfield, and their sons: Todd EVANS of Ottuwma, and Scott EVANS of Iowa City; as well as his sister, Susan PHIPPS of Fairfield; and her children and their families: Rob (Juanita) PHIPPS of Mt. Pleasant, and Sarah (Chris) JORGENSEN of Ankeny.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
