NELSON, Inez E. -- Inez E. NELSON, 73, of Bonaparte, formerly of Lockridge, died Thursday, June 18, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at New Sweden Lutheran Church in rural Lockridge. Burial will be in New Sweden Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation began at 2 p.m. today at Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

A memorial has been established.

Mrs. NELSON was born Jan. 8, 1936, in Terre Haute, Ill. She married Larry NELSON Nov. 30, 1959, in Burlington.

Mrs. NELSON graduated from Terre Haute High School and Burlington School of Nursing. She worked at several hospitals around the country in the surgery department, including in Nashville, Tenn.; Las Vegas, Nev.; Texas; New Mexico; and Arizona.

Mrs. NELSON was the first female on the Lockridge Fire Department, and she helped start Lockridge First Responders.

She was a member of First Augustana Lutheran Church of Lockridge.

Survivors include her husband; three children, Rob NELSON of Lockridge, Pametha NEELEY of Bonaparte and Alan NELSON of Texas; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one stepgranddaughter; and one sister, Norma BALLARD of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one daughter, Linda.
