MAJOR, Dorothy -- Dorothy MAJOR, 79, formerly of Batavia, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.
Arrangements are pending at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia.

MAJOR, Dorothy E. -- Dorothy E. MAJOR, 79, formerly of Batavia, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield.
A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church in Batavia, with the Rev. Tom Shipley officiating. Burial will be in Batavia Cemetery.
Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia, where family will be present from 6-7:30 p.m.
Memorials may be made to the Batavia Public Library or Calvary Baptist Church.
Mrs. MAJOR was born Nov. 28, 1929, in rural Jefferson County, the daughter of Joseph M. and Sylvia E. LAWRENCE BRADSHAW. She married Drexel MAJOR Jr. Feb. 1, 1947, in Ottumwa. He died Feb. 3, 2007.
Mrs. MAJOR attended several rural country schools and Batavia High School. She and her husband lived in the Batavia area.
Mrs. MAJOR attended Faith Chapel in Ottumwa for several years. She helped with Girl Scouts and served as room mother while her children were young.
She enjoyed following the many activities of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed the outdoors.
Survivors include four children, Judy DOVICO and husband Larry and Randy MAJOR and wife Karen, all of Batavia, Joan PUMPHREY of Omaha, Neb., and Robert MAJOR and wife Candy of Nashville, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one brother, Merle BRADSHAW.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Margerie DOUD and Marie BRADSHAW.
