FOLKER, Dean L. -- Dean L. FOLKER, 84, of Keosauqua, died at 11:57 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A memorial service and interment of cremains will be held at a later date in Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are in the care of Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

FOLKER, Dean L. -- Dean L. FOLKER, 84, of Keosauqua, died Wednesday, May 13, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Keosauqua Congregational Church, with the Rev. Harold Schnedler officiating. Burial of cremains will be in Purdom Cemetery in Keosauqua.

Memorials to Friends of Lacey or Keosauqua Congregational Church may be brought to the service or may be mailed to the Community First Bank, PO Box 130, Keosauqua 52565.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua is assisting with arangements.

Mr. FOLKER was born June 15, 1924, in Clark County, Mo. He married Margery "Pat" BROCKELSBY in 1949. She died in 1992.

Mr. FOLKER grew up in Farmington and Keosauqua and graduated from Keosauqua High School in 1941. He graduated from University of California-Berkeley with a degree in architecture in 1950. He was president of an architectural firm in San Francisco and designed hospitals around the world, including the Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. He also served as a consultant to the United States Department of Commerce and circled the globe 18 times in the course of business. He retired to Keosauqua in 1994 and designed facilities for the Van Buren County Hospital and Clinics and Van Buren Community School District.

Mr. FOLKER served in the United States Army during World War II and landed with the 44th Infantry Division at Normandy in 1944.

He was a member of Keosauqua Rotary Club, Friends of Lacey and Van Buren Foundation Board. He was a member of Keosauqua Congregational Church.

Survivors include one son, Robert FOLKER and wife Marilyn of Sebastopol, Calif.; three grandchildren; and one brother, Jack FOLKER of Annandale, Va.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and special friend, Maggie MILLER.
