YARGUS, Wayne Ora -- Wayne Ora YARGUS, 79, of Hedrick, died from cancer Thursday, April 30, 2009, at home.
A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Lancaster Christian Church in Lancaster. Burial of ashes will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
Arrangements are in the care of Holm Funeral Home in Sigourney.
Mr. YARGUS was born Aug. 8, 1929, in Fairfield, the son of Marion Winfield YARGUS and Florence May BROWN YARGUS KELLER. He married Lavinia Ester COZINE Dec. 14, 1950, at the Presbyterian church in Sturgis, S.D. She died in 2005. He married Martha CARTER Nov. 20, 2007.
Mr. YARGUS graduated from Fairfield High School in 1948. He graduated from Iowa State University. He served as a forester with the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Utah, Arizona and Wyoming until 1967, when he moved to Hill City, S.D., and operated several small businesses including a campground, service station, motel and chan saw sales and repair shop. He opened a small business in Yuma, Ariz., and also opened small engine repair shops in Fairfield and in Stockport.
Mr. YARGUS served in the United States Air Force and was stationed at what is now called Ellsworth Air Force Base, S.D.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael, Kendall and Martin YARGUS; 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Anita; his first wife; and two sisters, Nadine HAGANS and Leona GARRETT.
