EVANS, Junior L. -- Junior L. EVANS, 77, formerly of Fairfield, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
A service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. Burial will be in Rose hill Cemetery in Lamoni.
Open visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Mr. EVANS was born March 5, 1932, in Clarke County, the son of Lester Grant and Dorothy Kathleen CARLSON EVANS. He married Doris Carolyn SMITH June 8, 1957, at Lamoni Methodist Church.
Mr. EVANS was raised on a farm south of Decatur. He graduated from Lamoni High School. He and his wife lived in Crown Point, Ind., before moving to Fairfield in the late 1960s. He later lived in Lamoni and had resided at Osceola Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since July 2007. He had worked for the Michigan-Wisconsin Pipeline as a mechanic, maintenance man and operations assistant in the pipeline office.
Mr. EVENS (sic) served stateside in the United States Army as a truck driver during the Korean War.
He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing and spending time around rivers. He also enjoyed making discoveries with his metal detector.
Survivors include his wife of Fairfield; one grandson; and four sisters, Thelma SMITH of Loveland, Colo., Anne HOLLESEN of Loveland, colo., Eileen HENDERSON of Joplin, Mo., and Martha JOINES of Street, Md.
He was preceded in death by one son, Jim EVANS; his parents; two brothers, Everett EVANS and infant Carl EVANS; and one sister, Pauline PFAB.
