HARLAN, Deane N. -- Deane N. HARLAN, 86, of rural Stockport, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 24, 2009, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

Arrangements are pending at Raymond Funeral Home.

HARLAN, Deane N. -- Deane N. HARLAN, 86, of rural Stockport, died Tuesday evening, Feb. 24, 2009, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home with the Rev. ellis andrews (lower case sic) officiating. Interment will be at Spencer Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where there will be a Masonic service at 6 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Van Buren Good Samaritan Center or Spencer Cemetery.

Mr. HARLAN was born Nov. 3, 1922, northeast of Stockport, the son of Max M. and Ethel NIXON HARLAN. He married Nola J. HEADLEY Nov. 29, 1942, at her mother's house southeast of Stockport.

Mr. HARLAN graduated from Stockport High School. He farmed the HARLAN Century farm, which was a homestead, and worked as a carpenter his entire life.

He was a member of Stockport Christian Church. He also was a 60-year member of Workman Lodge No. 634.

He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include his wife of Keosauqua; five children, Naomi BECKMAN and husband Rodney of Stockport, Philip HARLAN and wife Barbara of Farmington, Ark., Victor HARLAN and wife Andrea of Fairfield, Noel HARLAN and wife Carol of Keosauqua and Claudia TERNES and husband Thomas of Mount Vernon; 18 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one daughter-in-law, and one great-granddaughter.
