CARY, Duaine Leon 'Mope' -- Duaine Leon "Mope" CARY, 80, of Danville, formerly of West Burlington, died Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009, at Great River Medical Center.

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel in Burlington, with the Rev. Jackie Bradford officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard will provide military rites.

Visitation will be until 8 p.m. today at the chapel, with the family present from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. CARY was born March 12, 1928, in Morning Sun, the son of Emmett Monroe and Betty Mae DUNBAR CARY. He married Mildred Elizabeth TEDROW July 10, 1954, in Fairfield. She died Dec. 26, 2002.

Mr. CARY graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1946. He worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and then became president and business agent for Teamsters Union Local 238, retiring in the 1980s.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II.

Mr. CARY was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church, Eagles Club Aerie 150 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9162 and Post 10102. He was a former member of West Burlington Fire Department and Morning Sun Fire Department, where he served as chief in the 1950s.

Mr. CARY enjoyed traveling -- having visited all 50 state capitals -- baseball, hunting and fishing.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffrey CARY and Rodney CARY of Burlington; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irene KREIGER of Morning Sun.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
