WHITMORE, Florence D. -- Florence D. WHITMORE, age 95, of Fairfield, IA, passed away Monday, February 9, 2009, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

Visitation will be held Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Behner Funeral Home between 9:30 and 11:00 AM.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, following visitation, with Rev. Mike Metz officiating. Interment will be in Abingdon Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made to Abingdon Cemetery or charity of donor's choice. Cards and memorials may be sent c/o: 603 Liberty Street, Batavia, IA 52553.

Florence D. WHITMORE was born in Mahaska County, IA November 7, 1913 to James and Laura (CARNES) FUNK. She lived most of her life in Jefferson County and was united in marriage with Orrie DAVIS October 11, 1930 in Mt. Pleasant, IA. He died in July 1954. She then married Dail DAVIS November 5, 1955 in Princeton, MO, and he died in August 1965. On May 31, 1969, she married Harvey R. WHITMORE and he passed away November 1983.

Florence was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, and was employed by Fairfield Line Company and Sunshine Laundry. She was associated with the Methodist Church and enjoyed quilting, embroidery, gardening and canning. She was a member of the Cross Lanes Social Club.

Surviving Florence are her children and their families: Jacqueline DAVIS EAKINS of Batavia, IA, Larry (Shirley) DAVIS of Batavia and Jerry (LuAnn) DAVIS of Fairfield, IA. She was blessed with 13 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Survivors include a step-daughter, Juanita SHIPLER of Fairfield.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Florence was preceded in death by two children: Charlotte and James, step-sons Ralph and John WHITMORE, step-daughter Mary RUGGLES, a sister, Frances Jean YARDLEY, and three brothers: Clarence, Richard and Robert.
