THORN, Betty L. -- Betty L. THORN, 75, of rural Wever, formerly of Douds, died at 9:45 p.m. Friday, Feb. 6, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Bill Shewmaker officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, east of Douds.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to the University of Iowa Holden Cancer Center or Zion Lutheran Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 560 Augusta Circle, North Liberty 52317.

Mrs. THORN was born Aug. 22, 1933, in the Oak Grove neighborhood east of Douds, the daughter of Joshua and Zona HANSHAW RENEKER. She married Edgar L. THORN Sept. 2, 1954, in Carthage, Ill. He died March 2, 1988.

Mrs. THORN graduated from Douds High School in 1951. She lived near Douds and for the past 40 years near Wever. She was a homemaker and had worked in customer service for the Fort Madison cable television company.

Survivors include one son, Brian THORN and wife Pei of North Liberty; two daughters, Polly McKASSON and husband Dale of Topeka, Kan., and Stephanie BRUNEAU and husband Stephen of Clinton, Mich.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gary RENEKER of Douds.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Kenton THORN.
