PILCHER, Iona S. -- Iona S. PILCHER, 78, of rural Douds, died at 9:05 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, in the Ban Vuren County Hospital emergency room in Keosauqua.
A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Phil Campbell officiating. Burial will be in Leando Cemetery.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuedsday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 6-7:30 p.m.
Memorials to Leando Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 19395 Route V-64, Douds 52551.
Mrs. PILCHER was born Aug. 1, 1939, near Douds, the daughter of Charles and Mary ASH BURTLOW. She married Dale PILCHER. They divorced.
Mrs. PILCHER had lived in the Hedrick and Floris areas and had lived most of her life in rural Douds. She was a farm homemaker.
She enjoyed rock hunting, bird watching and caring for pets. She was a member of the National Archeological Society.
Survivors include three daughters, Freda SPIKER and husband Elmer of Douds, Rita YOUNG of Burlington and Doris THOMAS and husband Marvin of Milton; four sons, Stewart PILCHER and wife Maureen of Douds, Stanley PILCHER and wife Mona of Douds, Timothy PILCHER and wife Janet of Bloomfield and Jesse PILCHER and wife Suella of Fairfield; 33 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Virginia McBETH of Montana, Bernadine HEMM of Birmingham and Diann HOLT of Kansas City, Kan.; and one brother, Laverne BURTLOW of Delta.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Cecil, Robert, Melfin and Pete BURTLOW; and one sister, Josephine NORTON.
