FRESCOLN, Viola Bernice -- Viola Bernice FRESCOLN, 98, of Fairfield, formerly of Batavia, died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009, at SunnyBrook Assisted Living in Fairfield.

A funeral is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. David Peterson officiating. Interment will be in Batavia Cemetery in Batavia.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at Raymond Funeral Home, and family visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorials may be made to Batavia United Methodist Church, Fairfield Women's Club restoration fund or a charity of the donor's choice.

Mrs. FRESCOLN was born Sept. 21, 1910, in Jefferson County, the daughter of John Orion and Velma EYESTONE BARTHOLOW. She married Bruce K. FRESCOLN June 5, 1929, in Agency. He died in March 1984.

Mrs. FRESCOLN was a graduate of Fairfield High School. She and her husband lived on the family farm near Batavia until 1979, when they moved to Fairfield. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. FRESCOLN was a member of Batavia United Methodist Church. She attended First United Methodist Church in Fairfield. She was a member of Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary and Fairfield Women's Club. She was a 68-year member and past worthy matron of Order of the Eastern Star and was a former member of Church Women United.

She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, traveling and playing bridge.

Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn WALKER and husband Milford of Sigourney, Ruth RIGGS and husband Jerry of Amana and Melva DAHL and husband John of Fairfield; four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Phyllis Jean FRESCOLN; one brother, Oral BARTHOLOW; two sisters, Florence EASTON and Nellie BARTHOLOW; and one grandson.
