NIXON, Mary E. -- Mary E. NIXON, 89, of Cantril, died at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Jerry Caughron officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cantril.

Open visitation began at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 4-5 p.m.

Memorials to Cantril United Methodist Church or Cantril Grass Roots Corp. may be left at the funeral home or may be mailed to the family at 26782 Route V-64, Cantril 52542.

Ms. NIXON was born Sept. 8, 1919, in Utica, south of Stockport, the daughter of William Allen and Faye C. PECK NIXON.

Ms. NIXON attended Utica, Stockport and Hillsboro schools. She received a bachelor of science degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in Kirksville. She taught in Stockport, Cantril and for many years at Fort Madison.

Ms. NIXON was a member of Cantril United Methodist Church. She was active in several professional and civic organizations.

Survivors include two sisters, Betty COLLOP of Dallas, Texas, and Dorothy AHNER of Taneyville, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Eugene NIXON and infant Jay; and one infant sister, Opal.
