Samuel PACKWOOD, after whom the town of Packwood was named, died at that place the 6th inst. He was 85, born in Indiana, and came to Iowa in 1944. He had been a resident of Jefferson County since 1875. Four children survive, all of whom are residents of other states.
DEATH OF SAMUEL PACKWOOD
Universal sorrow was expressed when it was known that Samuel PACKWOOD was dead... Born in Clark Co., Ind., in 1818; united in marriage with Malinda GOSS in 1844, and in 1848 moved to Des Moines County, this state. In 1876 he purchased the present Packwood farm in this county and soon after moved his family to it. His wife died in the spring of 1890... Almost every year Mr. PACKWOOD would return to his old home in Des Moines County for hunting and fishing.... Six children, two died in childhood. Living: J. M. PACKWOOD at Lincoln, Neb.; M. L. PACKWOOD at Arapahoe, Neb.; Mary I. SMITH at Williamstown, Mo., and Dr. S. D. PACKWOOD at St. Joseph, Mo.... Mr. PACKWOOD has gone from us, but the memory of him as a rare good man will long remain....
