DOWNEY Rites To Be At Richland

RICHLAND, Ia. -- Arthur E. DOWNEY, 76, retired farmer, died at 6 p.m. Monday at the Twilight Nursing Home in Keota where he had been a patient several months. He had been in failing health for the past two years.

Last rites will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Gould funeral home in Rochland. Burial will be in the Packwood cemetery.

Arthur "A.E." DOWNEY was born July 20, 1887, near Leon, Iowa, the son of James and Rebecca COX DOWNEY. He was reared and educated in the Leon community.

On August 18, 1907, he was married to Eva NEWBERRY who survives. The couple moved to a farm near Packwood in 1914 and lived there until their retirement 12 years ago. At that time they moved to Richland. He is a member of the Church of Latter Day Saints at Lamoni.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Ray, of Richland; and Don, Ollie; three daughters, Mrs. Ruth COPELAND, Fairfield; Mrs. Dorothy CLINGMAN, Hedrick; and Mrs. Charlotte BOUDEN, Alamogordo, N.M.

He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; 30 greatgrandchildren, three brothers, Ed DOWNEY, Lamoni; James DOWNEY, Davis City, Iowa; and Clarence DOWNEY, Kansas City; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah PERRY, Lamoni; and Mrs. Blanche COLE, who lives in Florida.

He was preceded in death by three sisters.
