HARRYMAN, Merlin D. -- Merlin D. HARRYMAN, 67, of rural Douds, died at 12:49 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. The body has been cremated.

Condolences may be sent to Mr. HARRYMAN's widow Marily HARRYMAN at Davis County Hospital, 509 N. Madison, Bloomfield 52537.

Arrangements are in the care of Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

A memorial has been established to Christ United Methodist Church. Condolences and memorials may be sent to Mrs. Marilyn HARRYMAN, 27807 Urus Ave., Pulaski 52584.

Arrangements are in the care of Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Mr. HARRYMAN was born July 18, 1941, in Ottumwa, the son of Harold E. and Ethel YOUNG HARRYMAN. He married Marilyn J. BURNS April 18, 1965, at Milton Grace United Methodist Church.

Mr. HARRYMAN grew up in the Douds-Milton area and graduated from Milton High school in 1959. He attended Iowa State University in Ames. Mr. HARRYMAN spent his adult life farming the HARRYMAN family century farm south of Douds until his ill health forced him to retire. He continued to actively manage the farm.

Mr. HARRYMAN was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, where he served on the church's administrative board, sang in the choir and belonged to United Methodist Men. He also sang in the Wapello Chiefs barbershop chorus of Ottumwa and was a member of Van Buren County Farm Bureau and Douds Community Club.

Survivors include his wife; his father of Douds, and two sisters, Marilyn RODGERS of Marengo and Shirley YOUNKER of Green Valley, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his mother.
