GREINER, Carl Michiel -- Carl Michiel GREINER, 91, of Washington, Iowa, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at the M.L. McCreedy Home in Washington.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in Washington, with the Rev. Ed O'Melia and the Rev. Paul Appel officiating. Interment will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Visitation will begin at noon Friday at Jones Eden Funeral Home in Washington, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m. A prayer service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials have beem established for St. James Catholic Church or M.L. McCreedy Home.

Mr. GREINER was born Aug. 17, 1917, in Clear Creek, the son of Charles Fredrick and Clara Katherine HAMMES GREINER. He married Alice Mae LUKAVSKY Sept. 4, 1940, in Washington.

Mr. GREINER attended school in Washington. In March 1941, he and his wife moved to a farm south of Ainsworth, where they farmed until 1961. In 1961, they moved to Washington, Iowa, and spent their summers in Minnesota, where they owned and operated the Red Wing Lodge on Leech Lake near Walker, Minn. Mr. GREINER also owned and operated a livestock trucking business in Washington and later operated a painting business until his retirement.

He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Washington.

Mr. GREINER was an animal lover. He enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed dancing, playing cards and spending time with family.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Ruth HOWARD of Washington, Iowa, Jean IRONS and husband Gary of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Sharon EDMUND and husband Jerry of Washington, Iowa; one son, Ronald GREINER and wife Debbie of Lakeville, Minn.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Wilford GREINER of Washington, Iowa; and two sisters, Harriet ADAM of Fairfield and Marietta GREINER of Campbellsport, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Sylvester, Harold, Howard, Charles and Don; two sisters, Dolores GREINER and Florence SOBASKI; and one son-in-law, Leland "Sonny" HOWARD.
