APLARA, Frank Sylvester -- Frank Sylvester APLARA, 77, of Lockridge, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A gathering for family and friends will be from 5-8 p.m. Saturday at Lockridge School in Lockridge. According to family wishes, the body has been cremated. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

Cards and memorials to the family may be sent to 3258 230th St., Lockridge 52635.

Mr. APLARA was born Oct. 25, 1931, in Glasgow. He married Shirley Ann REINKS Dec. 19, 1954, in Kahoka, Mo. She died March 21, 2003.

Mr. APLARA attended Glasgow country school. He was employed at many rock quarries in the area. He worked construction and operated heavy equipment for Abe Vorhies for 12 years. He later owned an (sic) operated Aplara Plumbing in Lockridge.

Mr. APLARA was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served in the Korean conflict.

His hobbies included fishing and hunting, reading western books and drinking coffee with friends.

Survivors include four children, Pete APLARA of Lockridge, Bill APLARA and wife Judy of Lockridge, George APLARA and wife Cathy of Fairfield and John APLARA of Glasgow; special friend, Deb PEIFFER of Lockridge; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mae DAVIS of Des Moines.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.
