LUERS, R. Dean -- R. Dean LUERS, 72, of rural Brighton died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, on his farm from an accidental fall.

A celebration of life service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa, with the Rev. Don Collings officiating. Interment will take place at Oak Ridge Cemetery in rural Brighton.

Visitation will begin at noon Saturday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 3-6 p.m.

Memorials have been established to Give Kids the World in honor of Conrad LUERS and Oak Ridge Cemetery Association.

Mr. LUERS was born Dec. 6, 1935, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Ruth ROBINSON LUERS. He married Rosemary SMITH Dec. 9, 1956, in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. LUERS attended West Chester and Washington schools. He lived all his life in Washington County. He farmed the ancestral family farm for more than 50 years and was the sixth generation to farm on the family's land.

In past years, he was a trustee and deacon and taught Sunday school at Prairie Flower Baptist Church. Mr. LUERS was a former member of the Washington County Beef Producers, where he served as secretary. He was a member of the Washington County Farm Bureau, where he served as secretary. He was an avid tree planter and belonged to the Iowa Tree Farm Association. He most recently was a Dutch Creek Township Trustee.

He received the Heritage Farm Award in 2006.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Julie COLLINS and husband Mark of Perry, Janine ROSIEN of Washington and Angela WALL and husband Les of Lancaster, Calif.; one son, Daniel LUERS and wife April of Aurora, Neb.; 10 grandchildren; three brothers, Harold LUERS of Monticello, Hank LUERS of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Lloyd LUERS of Canyon Lake, Texas; and two sisters, Virginia SMITH of Washington and Vivian GRIFFITH of Washington.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
