ROWNTREE, Robert 'Bob' F. -- Robert "Bob" F. ROWNTREE, 78, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, in Fairfield.

A private family service was held.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Central Iowa, 204 S. Jefferson St., Mount Pleasant 52641.

Mr. ROWNTREE was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Richardson and Marjorie ROWNTREE. He married Esther RAYMOND Jan. 20, 1956, in Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. ROWNTREE majored in physics and mathematics at Miami University and earned a master's degree in public administration from Syracuse University. He completed a doctorate in physics at Ohio State University and was granted a Mershon Fellowship for war studies. After graduating, Mr. ROWNTREE went to work for the United States Navy in China Lake, Calif. After retiring to San Luis Obispo, Calif., he did maintenance on the general hospital and held various offices in, and wrote the newsletters for, three senior organizations.

He served in the United States Army at Fort Belvoir, Va.

Survivors include his wife of Fairfield and two sons, Raymond ROWNTREE of Portland, Ore., and Walter ROWNTREE of Pocatello, Idaho.
