WARD, Robert C. -- Robert C. WARD, 84, of Muscatine, formerly of Davis County, died Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at Unity Hospital in Muscatine.

A funeral was held this morning at Troy United Methodist Church in Troy, with the Rev. Donna Olinger officiating. Burial, with graveside military rites performed by Reed Whisler Post No. 78 of the American Legion, was at Troy Cemetery in Troy.

A memorial has been established to the American Diabetes Association.

Mr. WARD was born March 12, 1924, in Houstonia, Mo., the son of Charles Clyde and Josie May WHITESETT WARD. He married Vivian Marie TONKINSON Oct. 23, 1949, in Lockridge.

Mr. WARD was employed at the Wilton Cheese Factory for 16 years and also worked for Per Mar Security in Monsanto for several years.

He served in the United States Navy on the USS Yorktown during World War II.

Mr. WARD was a member of Reed-Whisler Post No. 78 of the American Legion in Bloomfield.

Survivors include four daughters, Nancy FOOR of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Dorothy WARD of Muscatine, Judy HASKINS and husband Dan of Fruitland and Tina JARVIS and husband Russell of Troy; one son, Thomas WARD of Reno, Nev.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three brothers, William Walter WARD of Phoenix, Ariz., Everett Jr. WARD of Floris and Fred EVERETT of Pleasant Plain; and one sister, Lillie POTTSMITH of Auborn, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clifford L. EVERETT; and two sisters, Hazel WILSON and infant Marie EVERETT.
