SIMMONS, Ruth Louise -- Ruth Louise SIMMONS, age 73 of Fremont, passed away Monday, September 22, 2008 at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 24, beginning at 3:00 PM with family present between the hours of 5:00 & 7:00 PM at the Fremont Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 25, at 10:30 AM at Fremont Funeral Chapel with Rev. Bill Hornback officiating. Cremation will follow with inurnment to be held at a later date.

Ruth was born February 9, 1935 in Fairfield, Iowa the daughter of Loran and Helen Elizabeth BENGE SMITH. She was united in marriage to Ernest CANADAY December 18, 1953 in Birmingham, Iowa they later divorced. She married Butch SIMMONS June 19, 1982 in Fairfield.

Ruth held several jobs after high school in the Keosauqua and Fairfield areas. She was a homemaker and enjoyed her family. Ruth also enjoyed reading, crafts, traveling, bird watching, and gardening.

She is survived by her husband Butch of Fremont, a son, Ronald CANADAY of Packwood, daughters, Linda (David) WILSON of Des Moines, and Janice NEFF of Ottumwa, two step-daughters, Christina SIMMONS and Regina (Daniel) STRICKLER, a brother Kenneth (Gay) SMITH, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Clyde SMITH and a sister Florence HOSTETTER.

Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice of Mahaska County.
