BOOTH, Velma L. -- Velma L. BOOTH, 91, of Batavia, died Sept. 5, 2008, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Batavia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Robert Dvorak officiating. Interment will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Open visitation began at noon today at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia, where the family will be present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to Batavia United Methodist Church.

Mrs. BOOTH was born July 16, 1917, in Van Buren County, the daughter of Harry and Lila GOEHRING WILLIAMS. She married Raymond BOOTH April 30, 1939, in Fairfield. He preceded her in death April 23, 2004.

Mrs. BOOTH was raised and educated near Douds, where she was valedictorian of Douds High School in 1935. She taught in rural schools from 1936-1939. After marrying, she farmed with her husband in Wapello and Jefferson counties.

Her family was named Farm Family of the Year in 1969.

Mrs. BOOTH was a member of Batavia United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school; United Methodist Women, where she held various offices; Pastime Bridge Club; and Circle B Squaredance Club. She was a former 4-H leader.

Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn NANCE and husband Don of Libertyville; one son, Rex BOOTH and wife Linda of Batavia; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Lloyd WILLIAMS; one sister, Helen KNECHT; one grandson; and one great-grandson.
