BAESE, Max H. -- Max H. BAESE, 83, of Lockridge, died from lung cancer Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at the Veterans Medical Center in Iowa City.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. BAESE donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.

Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. BAESE was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Washington County, the son of Joe and Mable WIENEKE BOESE. He married Elaine SHELMAN Aug. 12, 1951, at Round Prairie Baptist Church, south of Lockridge.

Mr. BAESE started working aaway from home in 1941 until entering the United States Army in December 1943. He served with the 10th Mountain Cavalry Reconnaissance Troops during World War II as a scout in Italy, receiving two Bronze Stars for bravery.

Mr. BAESE worked at the Lockridge Lumber Yard, CBQ Railroad, Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, Dexter Washing Machine Company of Fairfield, Chain and Cable Company of Fairfield for 24 years and Good Year and Mackay Envelope, both of Mount Pleasant. He also farmed in the Lockridge community, selling purebred Duroc hogs and Polled Hereford cattle and retiring in 1992.

Mr. BAESE was a longtime member of Lockridge Baptist Church and served in many capacities throughout the years. He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Marlon BAESE of Durham, N.C.; one daughter, Gloria BAESE of Tulsa, Okla.; one grandson; and one brother, Clinton BOESE of Oskaloosa.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

BAESE, Max H. -- Max H. BAESE, 83, of Lockridge, died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at Veterans Medical Center in Iowa City after a reoccurring battle with lung cancer.

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Lockridge Baptist Church, with the Rev. Ed Newman officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Glasgow Cemetery. Mr. BAESE has donated his body to the University of Iowa College of Medicine.
