COLEMAN, Gary H. -- Gary H. COLEMAN, 71, of rural Fairfield, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

A funeral was held at 11 a.m. today at Round Prairie Baptist Church south of Lockridge, with the Rev. Kevin Dice and Aaron Helterbran officiating. Burial was in Lambirth Cemetery.

Memorials have been established to Round Prairie Baptist Church and Lambirth Cemetery.

Murphy Funeral Home of Mount Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. COLEMAN was born Dec. 5, 1936, on a farm south of Mount Pleasant, the son of Stephen E. and Iva E. YOUNG COLEMAN. He married Gloria GIDEON Oct. 31, 1958. They later divorced. He then married Kay CLARK Sept. 17, 1966.

Mr. COLEMAN graduated from Cantril High School in 1955. He worked at Rockwell International in Fairfield for more than 20 years. He was a Kirby salesman for five years and worked at Ramsey Jones Homes in LaGrange, Mo., for 17 years until he retired in December 2006.

Mr. COLEMAN was a member of Round Prairie Baptist Church south of Lockridge.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Tery HELTERBRAN and husband David of Lockridge, Marshall COLEMAN and wife Joann of Lowell, Michele NELSON and husband Don of Cedar Rapids and Mary Frances COLEMAN of Iowa City; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth COLEMAN of Farmington; and two sisters, Darla CASSADY of Mountain Home, Ark., and Mary E. HARWARD of Hot Springs Village, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Christine; one infant son, Reginal; infant twin granddaughters; and five brothers, Keith, Leslie Lee "Buddy", Charles, Marvin and Gene.
