HARGRAVE, Florence 'Floatie' -- Florence M. HARGRAVE, 87, of Evansville, passed away Monday, July 28, 2008, at River Pointe. Florence was born June 18, 1921 in Chicago, IL, to Thomas and Florence MOLYNEAUX.
Florence graduated in 1943 from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, IN. She married Robert W. HARGRAVE on November 11, 1944 in San Francisco, CA. After the war, Floatie and Bob returned to Chicago, where their first 2 children were born. In 1948, they moved to Evansville, where Bob had grown up and over the years, extended the family with 5 more children.
Floatie had many laughs and shared many of her life stories with her Sewing club and Hen House buddies. She spent countless hours helping out numerous projects at Christ the King School and Memorial High School and cheering her children's football, basketball, swimming, soccer, cheer, and track teams. And always she could be heard rooting for her beloved Irish of Notre Dame and Aces of Evansville College (now U of E). But most importantly, she could always be counted on to befriend anyone who was left alone or to care for anyone in need, especially a child who needed a hug, or a friend, to listen to their worries and stories. Floatie was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, St. Mary's Auxiliary, the Evansville Kennel Club, and the Evansville Country Club, where she was a member of the ladies eighteen holers.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Robert W. HARGRAVE, Son; Robert Jr. (Kip) and his wife, Terri HARGRAVE, of Syracuse, N.Y., Daughter; Chris and her husband, Stu WOLFF of Richmond, VA, Son; Tom and his wife, Mary HARGRAVE, of Orlando, Fl, Daughter; Susie and her husband, Doug BELL of Evansville, Daughter-in-law Anne HARGRAVE of Iowa city, Iowa, Son; Mike and his wife, Debra HARGRAVE of Charlotte, NC, Daughter; Jane and her husband, Tim McMAHON of Fairfield, Iowa, Grandchildren; Mike, Maggie, Annie and Gus HARGRAVE, Dori, Alison, and Courtney WOLFF, Dan, Ryan, Kelly, Nick and A.J. HARGRAVE, Molly, Lainey, and Gus BELL, Erin, Shaun, and Meghan HARGRAVE, Rachel and Sarah HARGRAVE, Connor, Kyle, and Abby McMAHON, and 8 great grandchildren.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and beloved son John HARGRAVE (1954-1990).
Services were Saturday, August 2, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church with Msgr. Kenneth Knapp officiating. Visitation was Friday, August 1, 2:00-8:00 p.m. at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville, IN with a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation continued at Christ the King Catholic Church Saturday, from 9:30 until service time. Burial was in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the King Catholic Church, 3010 E. Chandler Ave. Evansville, IN 47714 or Gene Logel Scholarship fund at Memorial High School, 1500 Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN 47714.
