LETTS, Rev. David DeRoy -- David LETTS was born on Sockem Ridge, Washington County, Iowa on September 16, 1940 on his Mother's Birthday. She was 28 years old that day.
David was raised on a farm in Iowa until the death of his Father in 1955 when David was 14 and at the age of 15 the family moved to the town of Richland, Iowa where he grew to manhood.
David was saved from a very sinful life at the age of 20 at the Nazarene Camp Meeting in West Des Moines, Iowa. And God in His great wisdom called him into the Ministry.
David went back to High School at 21 and graduated at 23 from Iowa Mennonite School in Kalona, Iowa. Then went on the Bible Missionary Institute in Rock Island, Ill. and graduated in 1968.
David married Phyllis Jean SHIMMEL June 29, 1968 in Bigler, Pa. The 29 of June 2008 is their 40th Wedding anniversary.
Bro. & Sis. LETTS entered the Ministry as pastors in Superior, Az. In Nov. 1969 and have been faithful pastors all across the years. David was pastor of the Bible Missionary Church for 35 years and has been a pastor in the Pilgrim Nazarene Church for the past three years until he had to retire because of his health and has not been able to pastor from December 2007 until his passing.
David is preceded in Death by his parents his Father Roger Runyon LETTS and his Mother Clella LaFloy (COIL) LETTS.
Three Brothers Judson Coil LETTS, James Dwight LETTS, Marion Leo LETTS.
David is survived: by his Beloved Wife Phyllis Jean (SHIMMEL) LETTS of Apache Junction, AZ. Two brothers: Emory Allen & wife Jean LETTS of Richland, Iowa -- Terry Eugene & wife Barbara LETTS of Olathe, Kansas. Four sisters Lillie Evelyn & Husband Gene MULBERRY of North Carolina -- Betty Helen & Husband Junior STUTZ of Kahoka, Mo. -- Faye Irene CROWE of Washington state and Mary Jean & Husband Bob KELLER of Fairfield, Iowa.
David is survived by a host of loved ones nieces and nephews and inlaws and wonderful friends. David has expressed so many times how much he loved and appreciated his friends especially in the last days of his illness and life.
Visitation is set for 9-11 a.m., followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. Aug. 4 at the Apache Junction Mortuary, 398 Old West Highway, Apache Junction, Arizona.
