SCHOOLEY, Ruth L. -- Ruth L. SCHOOLEY, 92, formerly of Batavia, died today, Monday, June 23, 2008, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

Arrangements are pending at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia.

SCHOOLEY, Ruth L. -- Ruth L. SCHOOLEY, 92, formerly of Batavia, died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia, with the Rev. Harlan Van Voorst officiating. Interment will be in Batavia Cemetery.

Open visitation is from 1-8 p.m. today at the chapel.

Memorials may be directed to the Batavia Public Library.

Mrs. SCHOOLEY was born Jan. 30, 1916, in Keokuk, the daughter of John and Nancy POPE SINGER. She married W.K. "Bud" SCHOOLEY Dec. 15, 1941, in Wapello County.

Mrs. SCHOOLEY was raised and educated in Jefferson County, graduating from Packwood High School in 1934. She lived most of her life in Jefferson County, where earlier in her life she worked as a telephone operator in Farson and Packwood. She later worked for the Dexter Company in Fairfield during World War II. She had been a self-employed drapery seamstress for many years.

Her hobby was collecting antique vases.

Survivors include her husband of Fairfield and one brother, Carl SINGER of Stockport.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Stanley, Howard and Paul SINGER; and one sister, Nancy "Nanay" HIXSON.
