SINGER, Stanley Ward -- Stanley Ward SINGER, 90, of Washington, Iowa, died Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Washington County Hospital in Washington, following an extended illness.

A celebration of life service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, with the Rev. Kitch Shatzer and the Rev. Bob Wollenberg officiating. Interment will be in Friends Cemetery in Richland.

Visitation will begin at noon Thursday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 7-8 p.m.

Memorials have been established for the service projects of the Kiwanis AM'ers.

Mr. SINGER was born Jan. 31, 1918, in Richland, Mo., the son of John and Ellen POPE SINGER. He married Marion BRAY Oct. 6, 1940, in Ottumwa.

Mr. SINGER attended school in Ollie and Packwood and graduated from Packwood High School in 1936. He and his wife lived in Richland from 1940 until 1961 when they moved to Washington. He worked as a roadmaster for the Milwaukee Railroad until his retirement in 1979.

Mr. SINGER was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army and Army Air Corp where he received a Silver Star.

He was a member of United Presbyterian Church and a longtime member of the Kiwanis AM'ers, the 10 a.m. coffee club at Winga's and the afternoon coffee club at the Frontier. He served on the Washington City Council and board of directors of the Blair House.

He enjoyed woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Greg SINGER and wife Diane of College Station, Texas; one daughter, Kathryn BENSING and husband Jerome of Franktown, Colo.; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruth SCHOOLEY of Fairfield; and one brother, Carl SINGER of Stockport.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Nancy "Nanny" HIXON; and two brothers, Howard and Paul SINGER.
