CARVER, Loren Eugene -- Loren Eugene CARVER, 76, of Mount Pleasant, died Friday, May 16, 2008, at home.

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Burial will be in Lambirth Cemetery.

Visitation began at noon today at the memorial chapel, where the family will be present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials have been established to Great River Hospice and Henry County Cancer Fund.

Mr. CARVER was born Nov. 7, 1931, in Lockridge, the son of Pearl and Dorothy Katherine KIRK CARVER. He married Delores Ann SNOOK June 29, 1952, at the Methodist church in Fairfield.

Mr. CARVER moved to Mount Pleasant as a young boy and was a 1950 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. Following high school, he joined the National Guard. He served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. As a young man, he was employed at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. He owned and operated Carver's Produce and later Carver's CB Radio and Sales in Mount Pleasant.

Mr. CARVER and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Canada. He also enjoyed gardening, canning his produce, playing pool, bicycling, using the computer to research a variety of topics, going to casinos, watching game shows on television and watching NASCAR.

He was a former member of the Iris City CB Club.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Lorna HENESSEE and husband Dennis of Mount Pleasant, Sherry SALTZMAN of Morning Sun and Joni DAVIS and husband Steve of Burlington; one son, Kelly CARVER of New London; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one step-brother, Don SMITH of California; and two stepsisters, Irene COOK and Evelyn CLARK, both of California.

He was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd CARVER; his parents; one son-in-law, Jerry SALTZMAN; one half sister, Lorene BOGUE; and one half brother, Gary SMITH.
