MORGAN, John Richard -- John Richard MORGAN, 90, of Henderson, Nev., died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at home.

Memorial services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Helen J. Stewart School in Las Vegas, Nev., and June 15 at the annual Charles and Amanda MORGAN reunion in Rubio.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Special Olympics, 5670 Wynn Road, Suite H, Las Vegas, NV 89118.

Mr. MORGAN was born Nov. 29, 1917, on the family farm near Rubio, the son of Orville Burns and Mary Verle BALDERSON MORGAN. He married Fern Evelyn HILL Feb. 5, 1950. She died in 1997.

Mr. MORGAN graduated from Rubio Grade School in 1932 and Richland High School in 1936. After high school, he started attending the University of Iowa until World War II interrupted his education. He served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps from 1942-1945, participating in the North Africa, Sicily and Italian campaigns. After his military service, he again attended the University of Iowa and completed a master's degree in 1950. Mr. MORGAN was a retired educator having worked with the Clark County school system for more than 30 years. Since his retirement in 1986, he had volunteered with the special needs schools of Clark County. He had lived in Henderson for the past 54 years.

Mr. MORGAN was recognized May 2 for his volunteer work through the Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada.

Survivors include one son, Brian Hill MORGAN and wife Sandy of Las Vegas, Nev.; one daughter, Kerrie Lynn SEDILLOS and husband Larry of Thornton, Colo.; two granddaughters, four stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, William B. MORGAN of Rockville, Md., and Charles O. MORGAN of Boulder City, Nev.
