COUNTRYMAN, Harold D. -- Harold D. COUNTRYMAN, age 70 of Birmingham, died at the Van Buren County Hospital on Tuesday evening, May 13, 2008.

Harold was born January 26, 1938 near Douds, the son of Donnel E. and Ruth Juanita SCHLARBAUM COUNTRYMAN. A lifetime resident of the Birmingham community, he graduated from Birmingham High School in 1956.

He married Ramona Irene HUDSON on January 26, 1957 in Fairfield. She preceded him in death in July, 2005.

Harold served in the U.S. Army from 1957 until 1959.

He was an over the road semi truck driver. He had worked for WLD, Dickey Transport, J.B. Hunt, Wal-Mart, CECO and J.I. Case Companies. He was a member of the teamsters union.

His kids were his number 1 priority and his most enjoyable part of his semi-driving career was helping his son Jim establish his own trucking business.

Deceased family members include his wife, parents and his brother Jerry COUNTRYMAN.

Surviving family members include his 2 daughters Rhonda COUNTRYMAN and Nadine COUNTRYMAN, both of Fairfield, and his son Jim COUNTRYMAN of Birmingham, his grandson Jimmy COUNTRYMAN and his brother Larry and wife Bette COUNTRYMAN of Birmingham.

A Celebration of Harold' s Life will be held on Friday at 6:00 P.M. at the Birmingham Lions Building. The family will be present beginning at 5:00 P.M. to greet friends.

Following the Celebration at 6:00 P.M., the Sharing of Memories will continue until 8:00 P.M. with a meal being served.

Memorials have been established to the Birmingham Fire Department, Friends of Birmingham for the shelter house or to the Evergreen Cemetery Association Foundation and may be mailed to Rhonda COUNTRYMAN at 2699 Kola Ave., Fairfield, IA 52556.

Harold has deeded his body to the University of Iowa for research and interment will be at a later date at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield.
