THOMA, Jeanne E. -- Jeanne E. THOMA, 100, of Fairfield, died this morning, Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

Mrs. THOMA was a longtime Fairfield resident and retired school counselor.

Arrangements are pending at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

THOMA, Jeanne -- Jeane THOMA, age 100, passed away Thursday morning, April 24, at Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM, Monday, April 28, 2008 at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield with Rev. Robert Koepcke and Rev. Richard Wallarab officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.

The family requests memorials be made in lieu of flowers to the Jeanne THOMA Scholarship Fund for FHS graduates.

Jeanne BREYMAN THOMA was born September 26, 1907 in Freeport, IL, the daughter of Roland and Florence (BEST) BREYMAN. Her early years were spent in Freeport, and her high school years in Marshalltown. After graduating from the University of Iowa in 1929, Jeanne came to Fairfield to teach English and Math at Fairfield High School.

Jeanne was united in marriage with Clifford I. THOMA in Davenport, IA October 31, 1932. They were the parents of Sandra, Louis, and Patricia. Clifford passed away September 1958.

Jeanne was a devoted wife, mother, and dedicated educator. She was a high school teacher and guidance counselor influencing the lives of many young people and encouraging them to follow their dreams. She was a founding board member for the FHS Wall of Honor. Jeanne retired in 1973.

Jeanne was a life-long member of First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield. For over 30 years she chaired the Baked Goods Booth at the annual Presbyterian Church Bazaar and had several terms as chair of her church Circle, and served as Deacon. Jeanne was a 75-year member of Chapter HA PEO. Other memberships include Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority, Delta Kappa Gamma, AAUW, Child Abuse Board, The Greater Jefferson County Foundation Scholarship Committee, Fairfield Women's Club, Lionels, Abracadabra, a life-time member of the Fairfield Golf and Country Club, and an avid Hawkeye Alumna.

Jeanne is survived by her children and their families: Sandra HAKEMAN of Cleveland, OH, Louis THOMA of Fairfield, IA, and Patricia (John) WHEELER of Roy, UT. Jeanne was blessed with seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Capt. Robert BREYMAN, killed in WWII.
