NELSON, Leland E. -- Leland E. NELSON, 89, formerly of Packwood, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2008, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Christian church in Packwood, with the Rev. Frosty Van Voorst officiating. Interment will follow at Packwood Cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.raymondfuneralhomes.com .

Mr. NELSON was born March 3, 1918, on a farm near Packwood, the son of Ed and Alma NELSON.

Mr. NELSON served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was employed by the Iowa State Police System in Fairfield and Des Moines from 1940-1950. He retired from the research laboratory of Mobil Oil Corp. in 1980.

Mr. NELSON was a member of the Presbyterian church for 50 years, serving as deacon and elder. At the time of his death, he was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Plano, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Dollie; two daughters, Linda MARTIN and husband David of Madison, Wis., and Judy OLSON and husband Jim of Beaver Dam, Wis.; one stepson, Bradley JOHNSON of Frisco, Texas; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

One sister, Kathryn; one brother, Ernest; and one infant grand-daughter preceded him in death.
