Donna Jean COPELAND

Donna Jean COPELAND, 71, of Douds, died at 11:10 a.m. Friday, March 28, 2008, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

A private service and burial will take place at a later date in Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Douds (note: in Van Buren Co., IA). The body will be creamted.

Family visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. today at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 1002 Seventh St., Keosauqua 52565. The family will designate a memorial later.

Mrs. COPELAND was born Aug. 3, 1936, in Selma, the daughter of James R. and Marybelle BAKER HOOTMAN. She married H. Roy COPELAND Oct. 5, 1956, in Ottumwa. He died Oct. 26, 2003.

Mrs. COPELAND graduated from Douds High School in 1953. She and her husband operated Douds Locker. She was later employed in the meat department of Barker Mercantile in Douds. She was known for her quality meat products, including her Donna Jean's Sausage. She was a Douds and Selma reporter for Van Buren County Register and Van Buren Leader-Record.

Mrs. COPELAND was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women and Chapter Douds GK TTT. She was secretary of Douds Community Club for many years. She was the treasurer of Mount Moriah Cemetery Association, and she was active in Douds Field Day.

Survivors include four sons, James and wife Charlene of Killen, Ala., Jerry and wife Karen of Loveland, Colo., Jon and wife Donna of Fruita, Colo., and Nicholas and wife Donna of Keosauqua; two daughters, Liliane OBRECHT and husband Edward of Eaton, Colo., and Connie WAUGH and husband William of Libertyville; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; her mother; one brother, Kriss HOOTMAN of Douds; and one sister, Mary Alice "Midge" LINGE of Washington.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her father.
