HESSE, Marvin F. -- Marvin F. HESSE, 81, of Bloomfield, died Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds.

HESSE, Marvin F. -- Marvin F. HESSE, 81, of Bloomfield, died at 10:28 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

A funeral is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. David Albert officiating. Burial will be in Mount Gilead Cemetery in Davis County, with military rites by American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494.

Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

Memorials may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 614 N. Washington Ave., Bloomfield 52537.

Mr. HESSE was born July 6, 1926, in Camanche, the son of Frederick and Martha WOLFE HESSE. He married Mildred GOODELL Nov. 27, 1946, at Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Mr. HESSE grew up in the Dixon area. He worked for Aluminum Co. of America in Bettendorf before moving to a farm in rural Selma in 1950. He retired to Bloomfield in 1996.

He served in the United States Navy as a baker during World War II.

Mr. HESSE was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Douds and American Legion John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494 of Douds.

He enjoyed sharing fresh bread with friends, fishing, hunting and writing poems.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald and Marlin HESSE, both of Ottumwa; one daughter, Linda WARE and husband John of Bloomfield; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Fred, Clifford and Morton; and six sisters, Florence, Norma, Evelyn, Marjorie, Carma and Irma.
