25 May 1944DEATH TAKES MARTINSBURG CONTRACTOR.
Fred Albert EMERY (sic - EMRY), age 61 years, of Martinsburg died at his residence in Martinsburg Friday, May 19, at 5:45 p.m. of a heart attack after two days sickness. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert EMERY and was born on June 4, 1882 at Pleasant Plain. He came to Keokuk county thirty-four years ago and has been a prominent well contractor in Keokuk and surrounding counties for the past thirty-two years.
He was married to Mamie COPELAND of Batavia in 1903 and to Emma PORTMAN in 1931. He leaves to mourn his death his wife and six children: Sterling of Martinsburg. Harry, who is in the armed service located somewhere in England; Austin of Pleasant Plain. Clark, in the service somewhere in the South Pacific area, and George and Charles who live in Ottumwa. There are nine grandchildren, five boys and four girls, and seventeen living brothers and sisters.
Funeral services were held at the home in Martinsburg on Monday and the body was taken to Pleasant Plain for burial in the Walnut cemetery. In charge of the services was the Rev. Marcia Gonzala.
