Morris Ray "Morrie" LOWE, 57, of rural Mount Pleasant, died Thursday, February 28, 2008, at home following a battle with cancer.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Jim Luder officiating. A private family burial will be in Lambirth Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1-7 p.m. Saturday at the memorial chapel, where the family will be present from 2-4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Hospice of Central Iowa, American Cancer Society and American Diabetes Association. Online condolences may be sent to www.olsonpowell.com .
Mr. LOWE was born June 27, 1950, in Charleston, Mo., the son of Frank Sollie and Mary Elizabeth BURNS LOWE. He married Diana Lynn BENNETT July 19, 1970, in Burlington.
Mr. LOWE spent his formative years in St. Louis, Mo., Lomax, Ill., and Colusa, Ill. He was a 1968 graduate of Carthage High School in Carthage, Ill. He worked at Heatilator, now Hearth and Home Technologies, for 25 years. He worked as a foreman and in the set-up operation in the fabrication department. He retired in 1997 due to his health.
Mr. LOWE enjoyed working with computers and playing games on them, woodworking and spending time in his shop and going on fishing and camping trips with family and friends.
He was a member of the Lockridge Saddle Club and the Salem Lions Club of which he had served as president. He also was a member of the Silver Circle Club of Hearth and Home Technologies.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Janelle LOWE and husband Bob BOWMAN of New London and Christy HRIBAL and husband Shane of Creston; five grandchildren; three brothers, Robert LOWE of Lomax, Ill., Jim LOWE of Machesney Park, Ill., and Jerry LOWE of Carthage, Ill.; and two sisters, Jean FREEMAN of Carthage, Ill., and Ann LONDRIE of Washington, Ill.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Sam LOWE; and two sisters, Virginia LOWE in infancy and Pat NEWBANKS.
