BURR, Velma G. -- Velma G. BURR, 96, of Douds, died at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 29, 2008, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.
A funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the Rev. Len Garrison officiating. Burial will be in Mount Moriah Cemetery north of Douds.
Open visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where family will be present from 4-6 p.m.
Memorials to Mount Moriah Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or mailed to PO Box 513, Keosauqua 52565.
Mrs. BURR was born July 17, 1911, near Douds, the daughter of Edward and Alice CREEK DUKE. She married Carl L. BURR July 2, 1932, in Memphis, Mo. He died Nov. 8, 1983.
Mrs. BURR and her husband farmed in the Mount Sterling community and retired to Douds. She had resided at Van Buren Good Samaritan Center in Keosauqua since June 6, 2006.
Survivors include three sons, Donald BURR and wife Carol of Middleton, N.J., Robert BURR and wife Sharon of Yoder, Colo., and Ronald BURR and wife Jeanie of Phoenix, Ariz.; one daughter, Norma BRATRSOVSKY of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Frances DOSHER of Mount Pleasant.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Pauline DURFLINGER, Opal BROWN and Elsie STAGERS; and three brothers, Roscoe, Herbert and Gordon DUKE.
