KAUFMAN, Michael L. -- Michael L. KAUFMAN, 51, of Wayland, died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2008, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant following a five-year battle with cancer.
A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Jones-Eden Funeral Home in Washington, Iowa, with the Rev. Don Lowe officiating. Interment, with military honors conducted by Washington American Legion Post No. 29, will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington, Iowa.
Visitation began at noon today at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6-8 p.m.

Mr. KAUFMAN was born June 7, 1956, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Luella ALLIMAN KAUFMAN. He married Donna PEIFFER April 30, 1976, in Riverside, Calif.
Mr. KAUFMAN attended school in Wayland and graduated from WACO High School. Following high school, he served in the United States Air Force from 1974-1978. He and his wife moved to Wayland in 1978. He worked at the Goodyear Rubber and Tire Company in Mount Pleasant. He last worked at Veyance Tech Incorporated in Mount Pleasant.
He enjoyed reading science fiction books and mushrooming.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joseph KAUFMAN of Wayland and Michael "Bubba" KAUFMAN and wife Abbe of Wayland; one grandson; his mother and stepfather, Luella and Roy MILLER of Wayland; father and stepmother, Raymond and Bonnie KAUFMAN of Mount Pleasant; three brothers, Terry KAUFMAN of Fairfield, Kenny KAUFMAN of Wayland and Dennis KAUFMAN of Wayland; two sisters, Sherry ICCARINO-KAUFMAN of Davenport and Lynne REIGHARD of Topeka, Kan.; four half sisters, Lori, Crystal, Carmen and Holly; and numberous stepbrothers and stepsisters.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Danny KAUFMAN and his grandparents, Blanche and Lester ALLIMAN and Andy KAUFMAN.
