MYERS, Cecil William -- Cecil William MYERS, 95, of Davenport, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center - West Campus in Davenport.

A Celebration of Life service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Lockridge, with a military graveside service conducted by American Legion Post No. 26 of Davenport.

Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church or Davenport Breakfast Lions Club.

Mr. MYERS was born in 1912 in Keokuk, the son of Harry and Pearl MYERS. He married Gertrude FULTON in 1935 in Fairfield. She died in 1995.

Mr. MYERS served in the United States Navy during World War II aboard the Destroyer USS Wedderburn and the USS Cascade 16, working in the pay office.

For many years, Mr. MYERS worked at Brown, Lynch & Scott Hardware & Farm Store in Brighton and West Liberty. He later became the credit manager and business office manager at the former Mercy Hospital in Davenport until retiring in 1972.

He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Brighton and a life member of the Davenport Breakfast Lions Club where he received numerous awards, including the Melvin Jones Award. He also volunteered at CASI, teaching line dancing for more than 15 years.

In addition to dancing, Mr. MYERS enjoyed playing cards and spending winters in Florida.

Survivors include one niece, Joan BOYD of Omaha, Neb.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred SIX and Gwendolyn MYERS.
