McLAIN, Merle E. -- Merle E. McLAIN, 74, of rural Keosauqua died at 9:40 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at his home.
The funeral is set for 2 p.m. Friday at Center Chapel United Methodist Church southeast of Keosauqua, with the Rev. Bryon Wixom officiating.
Burial will be in Center Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation will open at 2 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with family present from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Memorials to Hospice of Central Iowa, Center Chapel Cemetery or Keosauqua Fire Department may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 24192 Highway 1, Keosauqua 52565.
Mr. McLAIN was born June 24, 1933, in rural Douds, the son of Leslie R. and Mabel BROWN McLAIN. He married Earlene MOORE Nov. 24, 1957, at her parents' home in Duncan, Okla.
Mr. McLAIN graduated from Keosauqua High School, served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957, worked for the Iowa State Highway Commission and farmed in rural Keosauqua for 50 years.
He was active in 4-H, including volunteering at the beef weigh-in and the Van Buren County Fair in Keosauqua.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Tammy CLOSSER and husband Jim of Milton and Linda FOUNTAIN and husband Curt of West Branch; three granddaughters; four stepgrandchildren; four stepgreatgrandchildren; one sister, Twyla MILLER of Bloomfield; and four brothers, Ernest McLAIN of Lockridge, Jerry McLAIN of Milton, James McLAIN of Cantril and David McLAIN of Keosauqua.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother-in-law Dick MILLER.
