Thurs., Dec. 28, 2006, p. 10.Vern Harry Trueblood, 82, of Rutledge, Tenn., died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2006, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Jefferson City, Tenn.
Vern was born in Jackson, Minnesota on January 23, 1924 to Harry and Marie Trueblood. He moved to the New London and Oakland Mills area as a child. He attended school in New London and earned his GED. He attended Burlington Business College in North Carolina for two years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in April 1943, where he served as an ambulance driver in 89th Division 314th Medical Battalion. He was honorably discharged in April 1946.
He married Ruth Oakley in Burlington, NC on December 2, 1944 and was employed later by Western Electric and Burlington Mills. He returned to the Stockport area where he was a town marshall, a bus driver and a quarry worker. Mr. Trueblood also lived in Keosauqua and Birmingham. He retired from Rockwell International in 1993 after 32 years of service. Mr. Trueblood moved to Rutledge, Tennessee following his retirement.
Survivors include two daughters: Krista McWhirter (Ron) of Rutledge, Tennessee and Jane Pearce (Randall) of Morristown, Tennessee. Four sons: Dan (Monica) of Chicago, Illinois, Brad (Shirley) of Morristown, Tennessee, Brian (Tammy) of West Allis, Wisconsin and Brent (Hope) of Rutledge, Tennessee. Nine grandchildren Audra Gilpin (Darin) of Fairfield, Iowa, Kara McWhirter Waugh (Barry) of Des Moines, Iowa, Kimberly Stapleton (Marcus) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Mike and Mitch Trueblood of Jefferson City, Tennessee, Sara and Zachary Trueblood of West Allis, Wisconsin, and T.J. and Gabrielle Trueblood of Rutledge, Tennessee. 1 great granddaughter Fiona Stapleton of Knoxville, Tennessee. 1 brother Clarence Trueblood (Mary Ann) of Fairfield, Iowa. 1 sister Ferne Stecker (Dale) of Mount Pleasant, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a sister Margie, infant daughter Rhonda, granddaughter Danielle and grandson Kevin.
Visitation will be Thursday December 28 from 5 to 7 pm at Smith’s Funeral Home in Rutledge, with funeral services to follow at 7:00. Graveside burial service will be at 11:00 am Friday with military rites at Grainger County Memorial Gardens in Rutledge, TN.
