I. Lucille Spates, 93, of Fairfield, died Saturday, Dec. 2, 2006, at Jefferson County Hospital’s Living Care Center.

The funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Behner Funeral Home, with the Rev. Danny Cary officiating. The body has been cremated, and inurnment will be in Letts Cemetery in Letts.

Visitation, with the family present, will be held 6:30-7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Living Care Center. Cards and memorials may be sent to 905 E. Jefferson Ave., Fairfield 52556. Online condolences can be left at www.behnerfh.com.

Mrs. Spates was born Dec. 19, 1912, in Letts, the daughter of Lloyd M. and Louella Jones Littrel. She married Charles D. Spates Sept. 23, 1939, in Fairfield. He died July 24, 1984.

Mrs. Spates graduated from Letts High School in 1932.

She was employed briefly as a telephone operator in Des Moines during World War II, and she was a teacher for eight years with Muscatine County Schools.

Mrs. Spates was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1939.

Survivors include one daughter, Leah Canfield of Fairfield; one son Lloyd Spates and wife Diana of Douds; five grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, Maurice “Bud” Littrel of Muscatine.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters and three brothers: Leona Schafer, Leah Smith, Ruth Reid, Howard Littrel, Wayne Littrel and Harold Littrel.
