Ella M. “Smitty” REED, 94, of rural Libertyville died at 2:20 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A graveside service is set for 10 a.m. Monday in Fell Cemetery near Libertyville, with the Rev. Larry Eklund officiating. Her body has been cremated.

Memorials to monument repair in Maple Hill Cemetery in Birmingham may be left at the service or mailed to the family at 2599 Douds Road, Libertyville 52567.

Mrs. REED was born Sept. 11, 1911, near Birmingham, the daughter of Pearl A. and Mary GRAMMAR SMITH. She married John REED May 18, 1938, in Crown Point, Ind.

Mrs. REED lived her life in the Birmingham and Libertyville communities. She graduated from Birmingham High School and took nurse’s training at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield and University Hospital in Iowa City. She worked as a registered nurse at Jefferson County Hospital and Parkview Care Center in Fairfield.

Survivors include her husband; one sister, Mildred CHANNEL of Libertyville; one brother, Robert SMITH of Keosauqua; and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice COLLINS and Shirley NORRIS; four brothers, Roland “Red” SMITH, John SMITH, Hugh SMITH and one infant; one niece; and one nephew.
